Written by Phyllis B. Frank, a member of NOMAS (National Organization of Men Against Sexism). This article was written July 19th, 2012. The main issues addressed in this article are the itemization of women. The main point was the influence of the media, and this was helpful because of the importance to know how much power the media has on sexism. The information is very current and is relevant to today's society in how it it deals with the media; which is important in the world. This article is referring to America for the most part and it applies to society of America as a whole. Frank wrote this article because it was something of a lot of importance to her and she is trying to raise awareness for the organization and sexism. I believe in some form the information can be biased given the facts aren't displayed in a factual manner; there is a lot of tone and opinion floating around in this article, but it's for good reason. This article has definitely changed the way I view sexism and how my own identity has been warped by society before I've had a chance to prove myself equal. It was an eye opener to how much power the media has over the public. http://www.policymic.com/articles/56069/a-feminist-takedown-of-robin-thicke-and-anyone-who-thinks-there-s-something-blurry-about-sexism Written by Elizabeth Plank, a Viral Content & Social Justice Editor at PolicyMic. She has her masters degree from the London School of Economics. She is a behavioral science consultant by training and feminist as well. This article was written July 24, 2013. The main issues addressed in this article is the itemization of women. The point of this article was to show how damaging the music industry can be is in it's contribution to sexism. This was important information and I found it very helpful because it shed some new light on the song, "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke, a popular song over the summer of 2013. The information given is very current and relevant to the subject of this website. This article although talking about Robin Thicke's song, is referring to the music industry as a whole. Plank wrote this article to educate people on what the lyrics to this song are actually suggesting, and that songs that idolize rape are not songs to be listened to. I believe this information is a little biased given the tone it was written in, but the information is good. This article was very interesting to read and I think it changed my perspective on a lot of songs I haven't had a problem with before. http://www.policymic.com/articles/56319/the-feminist-takedown-of-the-economics-of-slut-shaming Written by Jaclyn Munson, a feminist writer, who is also editor and chief of a blog dedicated to pursuing gender equality. This was written on July 25th, 2013. The main issue addressed was the issue of less respect for women. The point was to show how slut shaming has taken an active role in society. This information had a very fresh perspective on sexism and it provided a lot of solid information useful to making this website. In information is very new and it relates well to this website. The insight given from Jaclyn was a very useful way to add perspective to the website. Jaclyn wrote this article because she felt it was important to write and she also wanted the public to see how unjust society has really become towards women. I believe the information wasn't that biased given a video was provided and facts were given. This was a great thing to contribute to this website and I found it really interesting to read and think about. |

Written by Andrea Castillo, Andrea attended Florida State University where she studied economics and political science. She blogs as well. This article was written July 2nd, 2013. The main issue addressed in this article is "slut-shaming". The main point of this article was to show how sexual repression is yet another way to oppress women. A concern with this was that even women take part in the itemization of each other. This article is referring to society as a whole; all men and women in the U.S. Castillo wrote this article because she saw it was necessary to address the issue of "slut-shaming". This information is very factual and the insight given was enlightening for making this website. Her writing definitely changed how I view oppression of women and it was a good thing to read to gain knowledge about sexism and how it works. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1995-12-03/features/9512030337_1_black-men-sexism-men-and-women Written by Malik Singleton. Malik Singleton is a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta and a member of Black Men for the Eradication of Sexism. This article was written on December 3rd, 1995. The main issue addressed in this article is the fact we have become desensitized to our own actions. The main point was Malik trying to explain how we can stop promoting sexism ourselves. The information given was written a while ago, but give or take the information still applies to society today. This article is referring to the reader and what the reader can do to change society. Malik wrote this because he saw how he was treating women, which is the way he was treated with racism, and he didn't like the way it felt. He wrote this to enlighten the reader and give a different view point on sexism, one that men can relate to more. I believe the information given is very informative and it was great to add to this website. This article showed me what sexism is like from a man's perspective, a black man, and I thought it was a great perspective and it gave me a lot to think about. http://www.msnbc.com/the-last-word/sexist-anti-clinton-buttons-gop-event Written by Sarah Muller, senior digital producer of msnbc, and is also an expert in society, equality and democrats. This article was written on October 8th, 2013. The main issue addressed was the fact Hillary Clinton was made out to be a joke by crude humor. The main point was that sexism always finds a way to go too far, especilly in politics. The information is very current and it was apart of the news so it's very factual information. This article was written as a part of the news in politics and to expose how sexist women get treated in politics. This article was very interesting to read and it also was surprising. I read this and thought it would be a great example of sexism in the U. S. government, and how society is not as accepting as we would like to make it out to be. |
