People Involved in SexismSexism is the treatment of women as weaker creatures in need of a man to protect them. They are weak, in the sense, that they aren't as smart and are an inconvenience for society. The main oppressors in sexism would be men, unfortunately. Men have shaped the idea that women are lesser than men ever since the beginning of time. That is just how society has worked. Because of this women are not respected. They are itemized. The are degraded to just body parts and pleasure for men. Women aren't taken seriously in professional situations.
Why? Men have created this social injustice because of the idea they have created about women, and women's previously submissive role in society. In the past women were house keepers. Their job was to be mothers. The men did the work. I believe women's role of being the caretakers made them seem less capable of undertaking real work. Men continued to succeed while women were waiting at home for their husbands to come home. Men run society, and society failed to develop for some time. The 40's would be an example of the epitomany of the "housewife". |
UnequalAll women are affected by sexism. Their social status does not really play a factor in the case, the fact of the matter is women of any class have experienced sexism of some sort. Men of any class can be sexist. On the social scale, men are on the top. Women have hard times competing with men in professional means. A good example of this is when a women runs a campaign for a spot in the U.S. government. Typically, the government is not considered a place for women. Men dominate this idea. A lot of respect in regards to women is lacking. Society has sculpted the image of of women as inferior and a lot of times cracks jokes about women to put them down. An example of sexism from a political standpoint would be Hillary Clinton and the battle she had against the campaign buttons made to mock her. As you can see from the picture below, the crude joke was made in an attempt to shut down Hillary. This kind of harassment is a good example of how women typically get shut down when playing in a man's field of work.
